The United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough
DIOCESAN FORUM

COUNTDOWN TO DIOCESAN FORUM!

Saturday 24 November 2001 the day of the Diocesan Forum is fast approaching.

The venue has been visited (several times!) The timetable scrutinised. The speakers instructed. The chaplains appointed. The worship organised. The stewards arranged. The menu ordered. The participants contacted. In short everything should be in order for the 200+ church members who will gather together for the Forum.

For them all roads will lead to All Hallows College Drumcondra. There the clergy and two lay representatives from every parish in the United Dioceses will participate in a new and exciting venture. Their task is to set targets for the Church's mission for the next three years or so.

The day has been a long time in gestation and hundreds of church people have been involved in the consultative process. It has been open to all to submit their thoughts and very many people did. Out of the large number of ideas five topics emerged as priority issues:

  • Ministry/Support for Clergy
  • Faith Development
  • Social Ministry & Care of the Elderly
  • Children & Youth
  • Planning/Attracting and Keeping Members

A key part of the Forum will be three separate discussion sessions with 20 groups each of between 10 - 15 people. Each group will be led by an animateur/group leader. Specially chosen the animateurs will be carefully briefed for the role and given background material to assist them in their task. They include some members of the Forum Planning Group and 12 others who have been invited to play this important role on the day.

As previously announced David Meredith will have the key role of facilitator on the day and responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of the day's proceedings will be borne by the Forum Co-ordinator, Geoffrey Perrin.

The day's timetable has been carefully drawn up. The main parts are as follows:

09.30 Arrival/Registration/Group Allocation. Tea/Coffee available.
10.00 Welcome by Archbishop
10.05 Worship
10.20 Keynote addresses by Bishop Paul Colton and Dr Patricia Barker
10.50 Introduction to Sessions 1 and 2 by the Forum Facilitator, David Meredith
11.10 Working groups Session 1

13.50 Introduction to Session 3
14.00 Session 3
15.00 Worship and Collation of group results
15.20 Presentation of results

Now all that remains is for the whole United Dioceses to pray for God's Blessing on the day that those taking part may discern His will for the Church in this part of Ireland.
