CHRIST CHURCH
CATHEDRAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION
Christ Church cathedral recently
announced its second annual composition competition.
This is for a sacred piece for choir and organ
or a cappella choir lasting between 5 and
10 minutes long, for soprano, alto, tenor and
bass (or a maximum of one split per part).
The first prize is €700 and
second prize €300, and the winning composition
will be performed by the cathedral choir at evensong
on Trinity Sunday (the cathedral's patronal festival)
as part of the Christ Church Festival in June
2007. The performance will be recorded and released
as part of the Live at Christ Church
series of CDs produced by the cathedral.
The competition will be judged
by Dr Robert Saxton of Oxford University, and
compositions submitted to him will be anonymous.
The competition is open to all Irish Irish nationals
and those resident in Ireland as of 1 January
2007. Applications should be received by the 4
April 2007, and the outcome of the final round
will be announced on 15 May 2007.
