PRESS RELEASE

IRELAND'S FIRST U2CHARIST TO TAKE PLACE IN DUBLIN

Ireland’s first “U2Charist” (U2 Eucharist) will take place in St George’s and St Thomas’ Church Dublin on Sunday 1st April at 7.00pm. The evening is jointly organised between two Church of Ireland Diocesan bodies, Discovery, (Diocesan committee for the International Community) and 3Rock, the Diocesan Youth Initiative.

The U2charist service, which began in the US, is a liturgy uses the lyrics and music of U2 songs, many of which are inspired by the deep Christian faith of the band members. The service is designed to call people worldwide to a deeper faith and engagement with God's mission of global reconciliation, justice for the poor and oppressed, and the importance of caring for your neighbour. The U2charist in St George and St Thomas’ will have a special emphasis on the Millennium Development Goals, which includes issues such as HIV/AIDS and extreme global poverty.

The music will be lead by the Discovery Gospel Choir and the service will be lead by Revd Katharine Poulton, rector of St George and St Thomas’. Greg Fromholz, Director of 3Rock Youth, stressed that “This service isn’t about the worship of U2; it’s about the worship of Jesus Christ. The U2charist is a great opportunity to reach out to the people in your congregation and larger community, especially young people.”

All are welcome to attend. The service will be free-standing and there will be food provided afterwards. Website: www.3rock.net
