ARCHBISHOP OF DUBLIN TO ORDAIN TWO PRIESTS
IN CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL

The Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill will ordain two Priests on Sunday 24 June 2007 in Christ Church Cathedral. The two candidates for priest are John Ardis and John Marchant.

John Ardis, Curate of Christ Church Cathedral Group of Parishes is the son of the Revd Ted Ardis and his wife Hillary. John was born in Dublin while his father was Curate in Drumcondra but spent most of his life in Crossmolina, Co Mayo. He was educated in Jesus and Mary Convent, Gortnor Abbey in Crossmolina and the University of Wales, Lampeter, where he studied Archaeology and Medieval History. Prior to going forward for ordination he worked as a Chaplain’s assistant, as an archeologist and as a Verger in Canterbury Cathedral. After ordination he will serve as Curate-Assistant in the Christ Church Cathedral Group of parishes. He is married to Jane who is expecting a child. John enjoys music, football (he’s a Liverpool Fan) and Films. Reflecting on one year of ministry, he said, “It’s been a tremendous experience. I am particularly enjoying the hospital work in St James. It’s been challenging but it’s also been beneficial and I hope the patients agree!”

John Marchant, Curate of Powerscourt and Kilbride Parish, Co Wicklow is originally from Clontarf in Dublin and was educated in Mountjoy School (now Mount Temple Comprehensive) and studied in Trinity College Dublin. On leaving college he worked for 16 years in a photographic laboratory since then he has worked in software development. He is married to Pat and they have four sons and one granddaughter. He counts organic gardening, choral singing and swimming amongst his hobbies. Reflecting on one year of ministry, he said “I want to do more of it!” adding that the experience of the previous year has “confirmed my decision to be ordained.” He is also presently studying for a H dip and Masters in Biblical studies.
