ARCHBISHOP MARTIN
TO ADDRESS CITIZENSHIP SERVICE
IN CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL
The
Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, the Most
Revd Dr Diarmuid Martin will preach at the 68th
Annual Citizenship Service in Christ Church Cathedral
on Sunday next, 4 November 2007. The service will
be led by his Church of Ireland counterpart, the
Most Revd Dr John Neill.
Amongst those who will attend
the service will be the Lord Mayor of Dublin,
Cllr Paddy Bourke who will be in the full regalia
of the office and accompanied by the ceremonial
sword and mace of the city. Representatives of
An Garda Síochána, the Armed Forces,
Academics, members of the Oireachtas, the judiciary,
City Councilors and the diplomatic community will
also be present. A large number of representatives
from the citys medical, arts and charitable
communities will also attend the service.
The service is intended to celebrate
the life of the city in all its diverse aspects
and to ask Gods blessing on it for the year
ahead. Last year, the service took place for the
first time in St Marys Pro-Cathedral. The
service will alternate between Christ Church Cathedral
and the Pro-Cathedral in the years ahead.
