PRESS RELEASE

DUBLIN'S 'BLACK SANTA' SIT OUT STARTS TOMORROW

The annual sit out by Dublin’s ‘Black Santa’, the Revd Canon Tom Haskins outside St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street will start tomorrow (Saturday) 15 December and will continue every day (from 9am to 6pm Monday – Saturday, after Morning Service – 6pm on Sunday) until Christmas Eve, Monday December 24.

This will be the sixth such sit out by the Vicar of St Ann’s which is modeled on a similar longstanding sit out by the Dean of Belfast, where he is colloquially known as the “Black Santa” from his heavy black clerical cloak.

The sit out will be shared between the Vicar and his Curate, the Revd Joyce Rankin and they will be assisted by many of their parishioners.

Last year the sit out in Dublin raised almost €25,000 for a number of charities including the St Vincent de Paul.
