EXTENDS SYMPATHIES TO INDIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH
ON DEATH OF BISHOP THOMAS MAR MAKARIOS
The
Archbishop of Dublin, the Most Revd Dr John Neill
today extended his condolences to the Dublin Indian
Orthodox Community on the death of their Bishop,
HG Dr Thomas Mar Makarios, who died in Newcastle
General Hospital in England yesterday (23 February).
In a message to the Indian Orthodox
Church in Dublin, the Archbishop said, I
extend to you on my own behalf and on behalf of
the Church of Ireland my deepest sympathy on the
death of your beloved Metropolitan, H.G. Dr Thomas
Mar Makarios. I had the privilege of meeting with
him on several occasions and was deeply impressed
by him and by his ministry. May he rest in the
peace of Christ whom he served so faithfully and
may he rise in glory.
Dr Thomas Mar Makarios was Metropolitan
Bishop for the Indian Orthodox Church in Europe,
the USA and Canada.
The Church of Ireland enjoys a
close relationship with the Indian Orthodox Community
in Dublin, which uses several Church of Ireland
churches in the city for regular worship.
